Nokia 447Zi - performance value for corporate users
September 04, 1998
Nokia supplements its range of top-of-the-segment 17-inch displays with the Nokia 447Zi, a quality display for everyday office and home use. The Nokia 447Zi will be followed by displays designed for corporate use in other size categories. As a result, Nokia's total range of 15-21-inch displays is set to provide for all groups of corporate and professional users in all size categories.
Like all Nokia displays, the Nokia 447Zi is among the top performers in its category. It also applies the same user interface thinking and solutions that have made Nokia a hallmark of display ergonomics.
The 17-inch display is in many markets the standard choice for an office display. The image performance and value-added features of the Nokia 447Zi will come into their own in corporate mainstream applications which increasingly involve Intranet and Internet communication. High horizontal and vertical frequencies - the horizontal frequency range is 31-72 kHz and the vertical frequency range 50-120 Hz - provide for high resolutions, enabling the user to work a large amount of simultaneously displayed information.
At the recommended resolution of 1024 x 768 the Nokia 447Zi has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, guaranteeing an absolutely flicker-free picture. The maximum resolution is 1280 x 1024 at 65 Hz. Thanks to Nokia's dynamic focus control system, the picture is clear and sharp.
The user interface of the Nokia 447Zi features direct-access controls for brightness and contrast, the two most often used adjustments. The other picture parameters can be adjusted with the help of the intuitive On-Screen-Menu. Nokia brought to the market this innovation which has rapidly become the standard solution.
The Nokia 447Zi offers Windows 95 and Windows 98 Plug and Play automatic device detection. The Nokia 447Zi will include an ICC display profile produced using color management technology from Eastman Kodak Company. This novel feature ensures that the end-user can calibrate the display to match the colours of the corresponding hard copy. The colour match will help to prepare the demanding documents to be distributed as hard copy.
The Nokia 447Zi has all the major international safety, ergonomics and environmental approvals, including TCO95, TÜV ergo and ISO 9241-3/7/8 approvals. The TCO95 is the most comprehensive of the approvals. Displays qualifying for TCO approval must satisfy strict criteria for picture ergonomics, power consumption, electromagnetic radiation and environmental matters, including recyclability. Nokia has actively participated in the development of the TCO standards, including the next-generation TCO99.
The power consumption of the Nokia 447Zi is designed to meet tightening requirements. In the on-mode, the display consumes less than 100W (typically 80W). Power consumption is less than 15W in the suspended mode, and less than 5W in the off mode. Low power consumption lowers overall energy consumption in the office through decreasing the need for air conditioning. The Nokia 447Zi will become available in September 1998.
