Nokia and Redstone sign agreement for network expansion in the UK
September 02, 1998
Nokia and Redstone Telecom have signed an agreement for the further supply of Nokia's DX 200 switches to expand Redstone's network in the UK. Deliveries will start immediately.
Nokia's DX 200 switching technology will be used to provide enhanced, fixed network services nationwide. Nokia will also supply installation, commissioning and maintenance support to the Redstone network.
"We are pleased to continue our partnership with Nokia," says Mr Graham Cove, Managing Director of Redstone. "Nokia's state-of-the-art DX 200 switches have enabled us to provide a range of new services to our customers since 1997 and to continue this co-operation was a natural choice. The purchase represents an important stage in the implementation of Redstone's national network."
"The flexibility and versatility required by operators such as Redstone is offered within Nokia's DX 200 technology. Redstone's capacity and geographic coverage in the UK will be greatly enhanced as a result of this agreement," comments Peter Kuhne, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications UK.
Redstone Telecom is the trading name of Redstone Network Services Limited. Since being granted a license to run a public telephone network by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in 1995, Redstone Telecom has developed its own switching platform and associated customer services and billing support systems.

Nokia's switching solutions and applications are built on the DX 200 switching platform, used in mobile and fixed applications alike. Nokia has delivered its DX 200 switching solutions to around 120 operators in over 30 countries.
