BT selects Nokia PremiCell for new services
August 28, 1998
Nokia and BT have signed an agreement for the supply of Nokia's PremiCell Terminals. The equipment is to be taken into use for the launch of BT's Siteconnect service.
The service will provide a wireless solution for utilities and business users who need fixed line services for a temporary or mobile office, via a Cellnet GSM connection.
"BT's partnership with Nokia has ensured business users can improve their communications with a cost-effective and versatile solution," says BT's Siteconnect Product Manager Katrina Ashmore.
Barry Inman, Senior Account Manager, Nokia UK, explains "BT have recognised that Nokia PremiCell is an ideal solution for them to create innovative solutions beyond the mobile services they already offer key customers through Cellnet. The trend is for an increasing amount of traditional voice traffic to be carried over wireless networks. The Premicell solution will provide BT with a competitive edge in meeting their key customers' changing requirements."
Nokia PremiCell subscriber terminals, which accommodate a fixed line telephone and fax can also provide a data connection to a computer, using a GSM network. Nokia PremiCell terminals can be easily installed by the subscriber in their home or office without the use of complicated tools.
Nokia is a broad-scope communications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, wireless data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and computer monitors. In 1997, net sales totaled FIM 52.6 billion ($9.8 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the NYSE (NOK.A), has sales in 130 countries and employs more than 41,000 people worldwide.
