Nokia named as one of the best managed companies in the world by major publication
August 14, 1998

Industry Week recognizes world's highest ranked publicly held manufacturing companies

Nokia today was named one the best managed companies in the world by Industry Week as part of the publication's annual 100 Best Managed Companies listing.

Nokia was selected for third annual listing because of the company's investments in: people to sustain global competitiveness, market development to expand the global arena, enhancing their relationships with society and staying competitive in these ever changing times.

Companies for the top 100 list are selected from the Industry Week 1000, which identifies the world's highest ranking publicly held manufacturing companies. The top 100 companies were selected after a four-step process: analysis of the company's financial performance, review of a questionnaire mailed to each Industry Week 1000 company; research into each company's practices in areas such as philantrophy and safety, and voting by a panel of more than 80 business leaders, analysts, and academicians around the world. The Industry Week editors made final selection.

Nokia is a broad-scope communications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, wireless data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and computer monitors. In 1997, net sales totaled FIM 52.6 billion ($9.8 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the NYSE (NOK.A), has sales in 130 countries and employs more than 41,000 people worldwide.

Nokia is the title sponsor of the Nokia Sugar Bowl college football classic held annually in New Orleans.
