Nokia to begin manufacture of mobile switching and base station controllers in China

Nokia's joint venture Beijing Nokia Hang Xing Telecommunications Systems Ltd., (BNT) is being expanded to manufacture Mobile Switching Centres (MSC's) and Base Station Controllers (BSC's) . The joint venture, established in 1994, already produces DX 200 fixed switching systems.
With this new production facility, MSC's and BSC's will also be manufactured for use in the China market. The expansion will provide work for around 300 people over the next three years.
"This provides a good opportunity for us to expand civil industry putting us in a better position to serve the market driven society," says Mr Shen Zhi Qiang, General Manager of the Hang Xing Machinery Manufacturing Company, Nokia's partner in the BNT joint venture.
Folke Ahlbäck, Senior Vice President, Nokia, China explains, "Building up the manufacture of highly sophisticated mobile switching products in China will expand our local competence base and increase our capability to serve our Chinese customers."
Nokia currently has six production sites in China, providing telecommunications infrastructure and mobile phone products, as well as after sale services.

Having supplied GSM technology to 72 operators in 36 countries, Nokia ranks as the world's largest supplier of GSM 1800 networks and one of the two largest in GSM 900.
