Nokia supplies nationwide Actionet mobile radio system to AWT, Argentina

Argentina Wireless Telecommunications (AWT) and Nokia have signed an agreement for the delivery of a nationwide Actionet trunked mobile radio system, based on the MPT 1327 standard, to Argentina. Deliveries will start immediately and the system will be in commercial use this year. MPT 1327 is the most widely used open trunked mobile radio standard in the world. The value of the contract is approximately USD 15 million.
Nokia will supply a complete Actionet system to AWT, on a turnkey basis, including switches, base stations and complementary systems such as antennas and battery back up equipment. The agreement also includes network planning, installation, commissioning and training.
AWT will use Nokia's Actionet system to offer high quality voice, dispatching and data services and applications for professional mobile radio users in Argentina, who are looking for secure, reliable and fast access mobile communications. Fleet management related functionalities for corporate customers including voice and data will be part of the service.
Argentina Wireless Telecommunications S.A. is the leading Argentinean trunked mobile radio operator. AWT will offer services from the beginning in all the major commercial regions (Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Rosario, Santa Fe, Parana and Mendoza) in the country and offers seamless nation-wide service for its customers. AWT plans to expand its service to other areas as soon as possible. AWT expects to gain the market leader position and have tens of thousands of subscribers to the system within few years.
In Latin America Nokia MPT 1327 Actionet systems are also installed in Chile (CTC-Startel), Brazil (VIA1), Mexico (Tricom) and in Venezuela a pilot system is in operation.
