Nokia Announces Further Expansion Plans in Texas
July 30, 1998
Nokia, a leading manufacturer of wireless phones and communications infrastructure equipment, has broken ground for a new 155,000 square foot office building here to accommodate continued rapid growth.
Nokia recently completed its 293,000 square foot "Nokia House" headquarters at 6000 Connection Drive on an 11-acre site at the northeast intersection of State Highways 114 and 161. The new building, scheduled for completion in the summer of 1999, will be located at 6001 Connection Drive, facing Highway 114, in The Commons at Las Colinas development.
Olli Kallasvuo, president - Nokia Inc., and corporate executive vice president - Nokia Americas, said Nokia's growth here has exceeded even the company's most optimistic projections. The company has grown from a handful of employees in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in 1992 to more than 3,500 today, and Kallasvuo says Nokia is adding several hundred new employees here throughout 1998.
"The site for our newest building provides close proximity to our current headquarters location, which will facilitate close communication as our Americas operations continue to grow," Kallasvuo said.
The new six-story building will house approximately 500 administrative, sales and marketing employees. The 6000 Connection Drive building will house Nokia's growing research and development activities and other corporate services. The architectural firm of Good Fulton & Farrell, Inc., which designed Nokia House, also designed the new building.
The team of Jack Fraker, Susan Pausky and Calvin Hull of Cushman & Wakefield of Texas, Inc. provides real estate services to Nokia, including all related development negotiations for this project. Bill Vanderstraaten and Hunter Barrier represented CARRAmerica, the developer of The Commons at Las Colinas.
