Nokia delivers fixed network equipment to ElTele Øst, Norway
July 02, 1998

Norwegian operator ElTele Øst has chosen Nokia to supply equipment for its fixed network. Nokia has previously supplied ElTele Øst's TETRA professional mobile radio network.

Nokia will supply the Nokia DX 200 switch and the Nokia Eksos access node with ETSI V5 standard interface for fixed networks.

"We have been working closely together with Nokia for the implementation of our TETRA network. Nokia is a forerunner in the fixed network market with the implementation of the open V5 interface solutions, and services integrating fixed and mobile telecommunications. Continuing with Nokia was a natural choice, as we can benefit from synergy with our TETRA network platform already in operation in Norway", states Mr Per Morten Torvildsen, ElTele Øst. "Mobilix, our sister company in Denmark, also chose Nokia for the delivery of their fixed network equipment. This will benefit customers having activities in both countries."

"This co-operation with ElTele Øst and Mobilix is important for us. We are very pleased to extend our co-operation with France Telecom, partial owner of ElTele Øst, in the area of fixed networks", comments Finn-Erik Hermansen, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications, Norway. "This agreement also demonstrates the competitiveness of our fixed network products. The common platforms for Nokia's fixed and mobile network solutions, such as the DX 200 switching platform, make them ideal for operators expanding their service offering."

ElTele Øst is a Norwegian operator for TETRA professional mobile radio network and it is now expanding its operations to fixed switching and converging services. Nokia is ElTele Øst's sole TETRA system supplier and will also be the sole fixed switching supplier. ElTele Øst was founded in 1994 as a continued operation of Oslo Energi Tele and is aiming to be one of the leading challenging operators in the Norwegian marketplace. Major shareholders are Oslo Energi Holding, France Telecom (34%) and a group of Norwegian utilities companies.

Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is a broad-scope telecommunications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and computer monitors. With sales in 130 countries, net sales totalled FIM 52.6 billion ($9.8 billion) in 1997. Nokia, listed on NYSE (NOK.A), employs more than 38,000 people worldwide.
