19-inch Aperture Grill Monitor for Business Market Introduced by Nokia Display Products, Inc.
June 08, 1998

Nokia's Advanced Design Circuitry Coupled With Aperture Grill Technology Provides Superior Brightness and Color

To meet the growing need for a high-end, yet affordable 19-inch monitor for the demanding business market, Nokia Display Products, Inc., a leading developer of high-quality display technologies, today announced the introduction of the 446Xt 19-inch monitor (17.9" viewable). The 446Xt is Nokia's second offering in the 19-inch category and is the largest aperture grill monitor Nokia has ever offered, giving users superior brightness with deep, rich colors in a large-screen form.

The advanced aperture grill technology, combined with European engineering has become Nokia's hallmark - offering the user distinct advantages in quality, reliability, longevity and form factor. The 446Xt is an excellent choice for demanding graphics, CAD/CAM, engineering and Windows®-intensive business applications.

According to a 1998 study by Stanford Resources, Inc., the 19-inch monitor market has found a niche by pulling less price-sensitive users from the 17-inch market and by drawing potential 21-inch users that are more concerned about price.

"The demand for 19-inch monitors has been increasing," said John Grundy, Vice President of Marketing for Nokia Display Products, Inc. "We've developed an extremely high-quality monitor for the 19-inch market, and are pleased to be offering it to business users at such a reasonable price. The 446Xt is easily the highest quality monitor for its price on the market today."

Technology and Design Benefits
The aperture grill technology boasts superior brightness, color contrast and color uniformity in all resolutions. Additionally, the 446Xt features advanced moiré cancellation, displaying little or no moiré at even the highest resolutions, thus improving picture clarity.

The 446Xt operates at an extremely high 96 kHz horizontal scan frequency, and supports an optimal resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels at 90 Hz and a maximum of 1600 x 1200 pixels at 75Hz for incredibly bright, flicker-free images.

Additional Features
In accordance with the complete line of Nokia monitors, the 446Xt is TCO'95 certified. TCO'95 sets the world's most rigid safety guidelines regarding electromagnetic emissions, ergonomics and power consumption, and prohibits the use of environmentally harmful chemicals during manufacturing. The 446Xt also meets the most recent guidelines set by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA™). VESA GTF™ (Generalized Timing Formula) standardizes a method for generating user-defined custom resolutions and refresh rates while ensuring perfect geometry.

The 446Xt complies with VESA-approved Display Data Channel (DDC) 1/2AB for Plug-n-Play installation with Windows® 95. The monitor also features Nokia's standard On Screen Menu for control of picture shape, color and clarity.

Pricing and Availability
The Nokia 446Xt is available July 1st through authorized resellers and distributors at an estimated street price of $799. The 446Xt has a demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of 120,000 hours and ships with a three-year limited warranty.
