Nokia extends the Turkish NMT network with Turk Telekom

Nokia Telecommunications has signed an agreement with Turk Telekom, Turkey for the extension of its NMT 450 mobile telephone network. The value of the order for this ninth phase of the network expansion is approximately FIM 80 million.


Nokia will supply the Nokia DX 200 MTX switching platform as well as base stations. Nokia will also provide some of the latest enhanced NMT systems features to Turk Telekom, which are of benefit for both end users as well as operators. Nokia will also provide a range of customer service solutions, including installation, commissioning and maintenance, network planning services and technical support.

Nokia Telecommunications' deliveries to Turkey began in 1986 and the NMT network has been expanding continuously since that date. The network initially covered only Ankara and Istanbul metropolitan areas. Today, the Turkish NMT network has about 125,000 subscribers and covers all cities in Turkey and 95% of the main roads. With this ninth phase extension, the coverage and the capacity of the network will be improved. The network will also be supported by new value added services.

"We are therefore very happy to continue this successful partnership for this ninth expansion."
