Nokia Display Products, Inc. Unveils New 15-inch Flat Panel Display
June 01, 1998
Small Footprint, Sharp Picture and Integrated Audio of 500Xa Reinforces Nokia Design Lead
Nokia Display Products, Inc., a leading developer of high-quality display technologies, today announced the introduction of the 500Xa flat panel display. The 500Xa features a fast response time, outstanding contrast ratio and brightness level, making it ideal for professional Windows® and PC-based applications.
"The 500Xa offers the high quality and advanced design characteristics that users have come to expect from Nokia products, and we are pleased to bring such a high-performance LCD to the market," said John Grundy, Vice President of Marketing for Nokia Display Products, Inc. "The compact size and exceptional picture clarity of this product makes it ideal for a variety of applications, from space constrained work spaces to high profile multimedia locations. The low electromagnetic interference of the 500Xa makes it perfect for use in clean rooms or hospitals, and the low power consumption makes it suitable for mobile use as well."
High LCD Image Quality
Nokia's 500Xa is based on active-matrix TFT (thin film transistor) technology, which gives the panel a response time of 30 milliseconds, making it ideal for video and other applications requiring high performance picture quality. Additionally, the 500Xa has a generous viewing angle of 120 degrees horizontal which allows its sharp and flicker-free images to be seen by several viewers at a time. The 500Xa supports a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 75 Hz. Because of its LCD technology, it is flicker-free at any resolution. The luminance output of 250 candelas per square meter provides exceptional brightness across the monitor's full spectrum of 16.7 million colors. The 500Xa offers a diagonal viewable size of 15.1 inches - the equivalent of a 17-inch CRT display.
Design Benefits
Created in adherence to Nokia's uncompromising design standards, the 500Xa is compact, measuring 15.35" x 3.35" x 13.58" and weighing just over 15 pounds. Nokia also offers users a wall mount option to free up even more desk space, and the detachable desk stand makes switching between the wall and desk virtually effortless. A microphone and 3 watt stereo speakers are built in the display itself, so no multimedia options are lost when switching mounts.
The 500Xa was designed with the single-button Nokia Navi™Key user interface for easy and intuitive control of picture shape, color and clarity. Navi™Key is exclusive to Nokia and consists of a rotate-and-press knob on the front panel to control the On Screen Menu. A separate control for volume is included for fast and easy access to audio adjustments.
Additional Features
The 500Xa features a D-sub 15-pin video connector and the VESA™-approved Display Data Channel (DDC) 2B for Plug-n-Play installation with Windows® 95.
As with all Nokia monitors, the 500Xa is TCO'95 certified. TCO'95 sets the world's most rigid safety guidelines regarding electromagnetic emissions, ergonomics and power consumption, as well as prohibiting the use of environmentally harmful chemicals during manufacturing.
Pricing and Availability
The Nokia 500Xa is available immediately through authorized resellers and distributors at an estimated street price of $1,599. The 500Xa has a demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of 100,000 hours and ships with a three-year limited warranty.
