Kreutler, Nokia and Telindus consortium win BEF 9 billion agreement for ASTRID mobile radio network for Belgian authorities

- The Belgian Council of Ministers has chosen the KNT Temporary Association - a consortium of Kreutler, Nokia and Telindus - as its sole supplier for Belgium's authority mobile radio network, known as the ASTRID project, a solution built around Nokia's TETRA radio communication system and Intergraph's Computer Aided Dispatching System (CAD). The network integration capabilities, products and services of Telindus and the services of more than 10 other partners complement these key elements. The estimated value of the deliveries is BEF 9 billion, The deal signed is the first phase of the deliveries which will start in October 1998.
The Belgian Council of Ministers awarded the contract to KNT after a thorough technical and commercial evaluation. The Council chose KNT, because of the strong combined competences presented by the association
Nokia will deliver and integrate a complete TETRA network including switches, base stations and a network management system; Kreutler will supply the voice recording equipment; Telindus will provide project management, management of all sub-contractors, integration of the (I/CAD) Dispatch system along with the overall system installation and maintenance services. In addition the consortium will provide a range of customer services including maintenance, implementation and training. The nationwide network will initially provide services for the state police, to be expanded to all emergency and security services.

Rheinmetall Elektronik AG is active in the Industrial Electronics sector, has over 5.900 employees and a turnover of about DEM 1.2 billion. Kreutler is in particular specialized in Communications Recording, Interactive Voice Response and Command & Control Systems.

Telindus, a leading Belgium company in the field of data-and telecommunications, employs over 1100 people and last year realized a turnover of BEF 7.6 billion with a total profit of BEF 281 million. Telindus has an international presence with an extensive network of direct sales offices and affiliates. The company provides besides network infrastructure, network consultancy, project management and implementation. Telindus holds 10% of the share capital of Mobistar, Belgium's second GSM operator, and will also participate in the implementation of the 3rd GSM network in the Netherlands. The Astrid project includes a 10-year maintenance contract, with a value of BEF 3 billion, from which a major part will be realized by Telindus. For Telindus this part of the order is an important contribution towards its service strategy
