Nokia and the Norwegian Railways sign a frame agreement for SDH transmission systems
May 19, 1998
Nokia Telecommunications and Bane Tele, the telecommunications subsidiary of the Norwegian railways Jernbaneverket , have signed a three-year frame agreement for the delivery of Nokia's SYNFONET STM-16 SDH equipment to Norway. The value of the agreement is approximately NOK 50 million.
Nokia will deliver the Nokia SYNFONET STM-16 system to Bane Tele, which will use the equipment to build a high capacity transmission network. It intends to lease part of the capacity of this network for outside use by other corporations.
"We chose the Nokia solution, following a total evaluation with respect to cost, technology and delivery capabilities. Nokia's flexible STM -16 solution enables open network topology and efficiency in the use of fiber," states Director Håkon Grimstad, Jernbaneverket, Telecommunications Service.
"We are very happy to sign this agreement with Bane Tele as it clearly demonstrates the competitiveness of our SDH system. The Nokia SYNFONET STM-16 is a very compact and flexible product giving the possibility to increase the capacity of the transmission network at a reasonable cost," says Finn Erik Hermansen, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications Norway.
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for cellular and fixed networks.
