Nokia supplies Actionet trunked radio system to STARTEL-CTC, Chile

- Chile's first nation-wide commercial trunked radio system based on MPT 1327
STARTEL-CTC, the leading mobile communications operator in Chile, and Nokia together with its partner Omnilogic Telecomunicaciones Chile S.A , have signed a contract for the delivery of Nokia's Actionet trunked mobile radio system to Chile. The network will be Chile's first nation-wide commercial trunked radio system based on the world-wide MPT 1327 open standard. The first installations were already completed in January 1998 and the system was also commercially launched in the same month.
Nokia and Omnilogic are supplying a complete wide-area Actionet system to STARTEL-CTC, including mobile switches and base stations. Deliveries for the expansions will continue as the subscriber base increases.
As Mr Gonzalo Doņa Iglesias, Subgerente de Planificaciķn y Desarrollo, states, "We chose Nokia's Actionet system because of its excellent functionality and features which bring value to subscribers. Actionet holds the market-leading position in MPT 1327 systems, reflecting the system reliability required in large commercial operations."
STARTEL-CTC will offer advanced voice and data services and applications for professional users in Chile. After the first year of operation, the expected number of subscribers in the Actionet network is approximately 15,000.
STARTEL-CTC is the mobile operator company of CTC (Compaņia de Telecomunicaciones de Chile). In addition to holding the leading position in cellular services in Chile, they are expanding their service portfolio to offer nation-wide advanced professional mobile radio services to their mobile customers. CTC is also a leader in fixed line services throughout Chile.
In Latin-America Nokia has so far delivered MPT 1327 based Actionet systems to Brazil, Mexico and Chile. In Venezuela a pilot system is in operation.
