Nokia delivers Actionet trunking system to Morocco

Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) of Morocco and Nokia have signed an agreement for the supply of an Actionet trunked mobile radio and optical fibre transmission system to Morocco. The network equipment deliveries will start later in 1998.


Nokia will deliver a complete Actionet trunked mobile radio system to ONCF including switching, base stations, operation and maintenance centres and radio terminals. Nokia will also provide turnkey implementation and project management of the whole project. These services include transmission and radio network planning and verification, tunnel coverage, terminal installations to trains and railway stations, system training, system implementation and testing.

ONCF will use Nokia’s Actionet system for its radio communications for railways allowing communications between trains, railway stations and personnel working along the track. The network will be used in Eastern Morocco between the cities of Fez and Oujda to cover 350 kilometres of track.

ONCF is Morocco’s national railroad company. The total length of railways is more than 1,900 kilometres and it carries almost 11.5 million passengers annually. The annual amount of freight carried is 29 million tons.
