Nokia changes tasks of Executive Board members and strengthens structure through a new Business Group

The Board of Directors of Nokia has decided to revise the division of tasks within the Executive Board and to strengthen the structure of the company. The responsibilities of certain members of the Executive Board will be redefined and a number of present businesses will be combined into a new business group, Nokia Communications Products. The new group will consist of Nokia Multimedia Network Terminals and Nokia Industrial Electronics.


Pekka Ala-Pietilä (41) has been appointed Executive Vice President and deputy to Jorma Ollila, President and CEO. Mr. Ala-Pietilä's responsibilities will cover long term business development and the Nokia Venture Capital Fund to be established. He will also be President of Nokia Communications Products. Mr. Ala-Pietilä has been President of Nokia Mobile Phones since 1992.

Matti Alahuhta (45) has been appointed President of Nokia Mobile Phones. He has been President of Nokia Telecommunications since 1993. Sari Baldauf (42) has been appointed President of Nokia Telecommunications. She has been responsible for Nokia's Asian operations since the beginning of 1997. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo (44) has been appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He will continue to be responsible for Nokia's American operations.

Geographical responsibilities for countries with a particular importance for the development of Nokia's global strategy have been specifically defined. Matti Alahuhta will be responsible for Japan operations and Sari Baldauf for China operations. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo will continue to be responsible for the U.S. operations.

Mikko Heikkonen (48), President of the Network Systems Division in Nokia Telecommunications, and Anssi Vanjoki (41), Senior Vice President Europe and Africa in Nokia Mobile Phones, have both been appointed new members of the Nokia Executive Board. Other members of the Executive Board are Yrjö Neuvo and Veli Sundbäck.

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo's nomination will be effective as of January 1st, 1999. All other nominations mentioned above will be effective as of July 1st, 1998.
