GLOBE TELECOM enhances service portfolio with Nokia's Intelligent Network solution
April 07, 1998

Nokia and GLOBE TELECOM have signed an agreement for the provision of an Intelligent Network System (IN) as well as another Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) for GLOBE TELECOM's GSM network. Deliveries will commence immediately. Nokia remains a major supplier for GLOBE TELECOM's GSM network.

Nokia will provide GLOBE TELECOM with an additional MSC, which has a proven capacity of 150,000 subscribers - the highest demonstrated capacity of any GSM switch. Nokia will also expand the capacity of GLOBE TELECOM's MSC in Manila from a capacity of 120,000 to 150,000 subscribers. It will also supply a new Home Location Register (HLR) and the Nokia mobile Intelligent Network (IN) solution to GLOBE TELECOM. This solution will give GLOBE TELECOM the opportunity to quickly bring many innovative services to its GSM customers.

"This is an important stage for us in our network development," states Mr Manuel de los Santos, GLOBE TELECOM Senior Vice President for Mobile Business. "Capacity demands are increasing continuously, which has led to our network expansion. And the selection of Nokia's IN solution marks an exciting step forward for us in terms of service provisioning for our customers. Nokia's proven capability to deliver solutions which are easy to integrate, fast and effectively, , were the key factors in our decision criteria."

"GSM operators such as GLOBE TELECOM are moving towards the development of advanced service provisioning for their customers," explains Mr Claus Karthe, Managing Director of Nokia Philippines Inc. "The Nokia IN solution is an important tool for operators who must offer a wealth of new, value-added services in order to remain competitive."

Nokia's mobile Intelligent Network solution enables operators to quickly create and add new telephone services to their networks. This means that they can better and more easily serve their customers by tailoring services to specific markets as well as dramatically reducing the time it takes to get a service from the stage of being an idea through to a viable service for a mobile user.

Nokia offers total GSM systems, with everything from digital mobile phones to transmission to switching. Nokia holds the world's number one position in GSM 1800 networks and is one of the top two suppliers in GSM 900 networks. To date, Nokia GSM technology has been supplied to 67 operators in 35 countries.

Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is a broad-scope telecommunications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and computer monitors.
