Nokia 446XS display combines small footprint with ergonomic design
March 19, 1998

The Nokia 19-inch 446XS is the first Nokia display featuring a 100-degree, short-neck CRT. The small footprint of the new display enables significant savings in office space. The professionally elegant design focuses on user ergonomics. High resolutions and refresh rates ensure the image ergonomics of the Nokia 446XS.

The small footprint of the new Nokia display will be appreciated by IT and general managers looking for the most economic way of allocating office space. It is invariably the depth dimension where working space is at a premium. The new display is also conspicuously lower than standard display of the same size. The key to the design approach of the Nokia 446XS, based on the latest ergonomics research, is to lower the display screen toward desktop level. The lower down the display screen is, the less straining PC work is on the neck and eyes.

The high resolution of the Nokia 446XS ensures the high information density of the display screen, enabling the user to work fast and flexibly in multi-application environments. The high refresh rate ensures that the picture is flicker free at all resolutions.

With a resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 90 Hz, the Nokia 446XS in effect has the resolution of a 20-inch display in the frame of a 17-inch display. It provides a cost-effective solution to making the move from Windows applications up to the more sophisticated tasks of desktop publication and entry-level CAD, imaging and simulation.

The Nokia 446XS has the familiar Nokia user interface praised for its ease of use. The solution includes easily accessible but not protrusive controls. There are separate controls for brightness and contrast, the two most frequently adjusted settings. All other adjustments are made by means of the NaviTM Key control, operated with the help of the On-Screen-Menu. The display has TCO95 approval, covering user ergonomics, power consumption and environmental impact of products and production.
