Nokia initiates the Recommended Painting Scheme
March 18, 1998

Nokia phones will get a personal look from the recommended painters

Nokia today announced its Recommended Painting Scheme for mobile phone covers. Under the scheme, a small number of recommended painters have been carefully selected and audited by Nokia to create customized paintings for mobile phone covers. The Nokia Recommended Painters are entitled to use the Nokia OK Logo as proof of their high quality work.

The companies selected for the Nokia Recommended Painting Scheme have committed to fulfill strict quality requirements for materials, craftsmanship, and environmental protection. The covers designed by these recommended painters will be available in the shops of Nokia's retailers in Europe. Companies and other organizations can order specially designed and painted covers also directly from the painters.

"We have seen that a large number of people want to express their individual lifestyles and personality through wearing phones with special cover designs. Many small firms have emerged throughout the world to cater to this demand, but the quality of their work has been variable. The Nokia Recommended Painting Scheme aims to give credit to the firms which have a reputation of doing high quality work. This plan coincides perfectly with the launch of the Nokia 5100 series mobile phones with the easily changeable Xpress-on™ covers," said Anssi Vanjoki, Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, Europe and Africa.

Specially painted covers will be available for the Nokia 3100, 5100, 6100 and 8100 series mobile phones. The users can change the Xpress-on™ cover of the Nokia 5100 series phones themselves. The covers of the other series of phones can only be changed by authorized service personnel.
