Agents Mulder and Scully rely on Nokia for mobile communications
March 18, 1998

Nokia's mobile phones make appearance in "X-Files - The Movie"

"X-Files - The Movie," based on the award-winning television series of the 1990s, will portray Nokia's mobile phones in action. The motion picture follows FBI Special Agents Mulder and Scully, who are drawn into a web of intrigue while investigating the mysterious bombing of a Dallas office building and the secrets buried inside. Both agents carry Nokia phones as their essential communications tools while solving the mystery. The film will premier in the U.S. on June 19.

The original TV series "The X-Files" has quickly established itself as one of the most popular dramas on television. It has won two Golden Globes for the best drama and for the best television drama, as well as numerous Emmy nominations (including the best drama, best actor, best actress).

The show chronicles the work of two FBI agents who investigate the bureau's "X-Files," unsolved cases which involve paranormal or unexplained phenomena. Agent Mulder (David Duchovny) believes "the truth is out there," and works with his scientifically trained partner, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), to find it. As the pair works to solve these unexplained cases, Mulder's strong belief in the forces of the unknown continues to challenge Scully's rational mind. Their relationship grows more complex with each case and slowly emerges as a heady mix of professional competitiveness, witty repartee and a personal intimacy due to the intensity of their job and the close proximity in which they work.

The agents have relied on Nokia's mobile phones throughout the television series. Therefore, Nokia was also their natural choice for the movie. The agents need communications devices which are reliable and easy to carry and use even in the most peculiar situations which they are dragged into. In spite of the supernatural nature of the phenomena which the agents experience, Nokia phones in the movie represent the true and existing forces of technology, which are today available for mobile phone users all over the world.

Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is a broad-scope telecommunications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and PC monitors. With sales in 130 countries, net sales totaled FIM 52.6 billion ($9.8 billion) in 1997. Nokia employs more than 36,000 people worldwide.
