Taking control of network development, the new Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse
March 18, 1998

As part of a complete package, together with Nokia's planning tool, NPS/X, and Nokia's mobile network management solution, NMS/2000, the new Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse provides complete network consistency and control for the operator. This is very important with the rapid growth in the size of networks; effective tools to control the network development process are essential through all its phases, from planning and storing data to implementing the changes.

Network development consists of planning, storing and implementation. In the past, with simpler network structures, the planning process was immediately followed by implementation. However, with the increasing complexity of network environments, the need to store and define the network plans before implementation has become a must.

In the development process, the Nokia NPS/X supports radio network planning and optimisation and provides configuration data for network evolution and tuning. With an optimal radio network plan in place, the Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse then complements the site definitions and prepares the data for implementation into the operational network.

The Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse is a centralised base providing the tools to introduce and manage modifications of the network configuration. This is the case, for example, when adding new sites and cells or introducing values for a revised frequency plan. With the Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse, an operator can now gain a higher level of visibility over the process of network development and in this manner, creates a controlled growth path for the network.

The Nokia Configuration Data Warehouse improves the visibility of the configuration data in the network. Combined with the automated processes included in the Nokia NMS/2000, efficiency in network development improves signficantly.

Nokia provides total GSM systems, with everything from digital mobile phones to transmisson to switching. Nokia holds the world's number one position in GSM 1800 networks and is one of the top two suppliers in GSM 900 networks. To date, Nokia GSM technology has been supplied to 67 operators in 35 countries.

Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is a broad-scope telecommunications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and PC monitors.
