Core Telecommunications UK to use Nokia's DX 200 platform for fixed to mobile service provision
March 13, 1998
Core Telecommunications Ltd of the UK has selected Nokia’s DX 200 switching platform to launch its services. The Nokia technology will be delivered in February and will be in commercial service by June 1998. The objective of Manchester-based Core is to become the leading UK supplier of converged fixed mobile services.
Mr Neil McArthur, Chairman of Core Telecommunications adds, “We selected Nokia because we feel that the DX 200 is the best platform for Core’s planned range of services which are both indirect access and intelligent networks (IN) -based applications. As well as having the lowest operating costs, the DX 200 is also the most flexible solution for the customer and carrier interface.”
"Core Telecommunications' selection of the Nokia DX 200 solution is an example of an important development in the telecommunications market today," explains Mr Peter Kühne, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications, UK. "With increasing competition in today's deregulated market, one method of service differentiation for operators such as Core, is to use a uniform platform, such as the DX 200, for both fixed and mobile service provisioning. This fixed to mobile integrated service approach, enables cost-efficiency and a wider range of service availability."
Core Telecommunications is a joint venture between OPAL Telecommunications and one of Europe’s largest cellular service providers, Martin Dawes Telecommunications Holdings Limited. Core plan for commercial service to begin in the summer of 1998, with a range of advanced, value-added services.
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for fixed and mobile networks. Nokia's switching solutions are built on the DX 200 switching platform, used in mobile and fixed applications alike. The DX 200 also offers a growth path to broadband applications. Nokia has delivered its DX 200 switching solutions to around 120 operators in over 30 countries around the world.
