Nokia and Plus GSM sign a GSM 900 expansion contract in Poland

Nokia and Polkomtel S.A., operator of the Plus GSM network, have signed a contract for the supply of GSM infrastructure equipment, for a value of approximately DEM 200 million. This deal continues the expansion of Polkomtel's nationwide GSM 900 network. The cooperation between Polkomtel and Nokia began in 1996.
Nokia will deliver to Polkomtel a complete GSM system.
Commenting on the deal, Mr Wladyslaw Bartoszewicz, President of the Board, General Director, Polkomtel, says, "Nokia's GSM system has provided us the flexibility and capacity necessary for serving our rapidly growing network. Continuing this strong cooperation guarantees the best services in the Plus GSM network for our growing customer base and also ensures the potential for offering new, value-added services to them in the future."

Polkomtel is a GSM 900 operator with more than 300 thousand subscribers and population coverage exceeding 75%. Plus GSM has roaming agreements with 84 operators in 54 countries. In 1996, Polkomtel signed an agreement with Nokia for the supply of a total GSM network system and implementation services. Polkomtel is a joint venture of Petrochemia Plock, KGHM Polska Miedz and other Polish enterprises, as well as Air Touch Communications of the U.S. and TeleDanmark.
