Nokia Display Products expands production to North American market
March 31, 1998

- Nokia Display Products, a division of Nokia, announced today that it will immediately begin construction on an addition to the company’s manufacturing complex in Reynosa, Mexico, for production of its complete line of high-end computer monitors. This action will greatly improve time-to-market for Nokia’s branded and OEM display products and continues Nokia´s expansion program to further strengthen its display business in the Americas through strong customer service.

“We spent 1997 building our customer interface by fortifying our product range and focusing our efforts on improving sales and customer service,” said Jim Cookson, President of Nokia Display Products, Inc. “Much of 1998 will be dedicated to establishing a streamlined operations backbone to serve our customers’ needs. To accomplish this, we have made a commitment to improve manufacturing, logistics and information management in the Americas. The manufacturing facility is the first component of that backbone.”

“This construction project represents a major commitment by Nokia to our customers and to the market,” said Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, President of Nokia, Inc. Americas. “We are extremely pleased with the strong demand for Nokia monitors, and we’re expanding our Reynosa manufacturing complex because it is close to our customers and distributors, so we can substantially reduce time to market.”

Reijo Lantto, President of the Nokia Display Products Division, said “the operations facility and expansion plan in the Americas is a critical component of Nokia Display Products’ strategy to further strengthen its position as a leading global supplier of displays.”

Currently, Nokia Display Products manufactures monitors in Salo, Finland and Pecs, Hungary. The additional capability of the Reynosa facility will reduce the current shipping time for US-bound products from weeks to just a few days. Nokia presently manufactures mobile phone accessories in Reynosa.

When fully completed, this addition will have the capacity to produce more than one million displays per year. Products, which include Nokia’s full line of 17”, 19” and 21” monitors, as well as LCD displays, will begin shipping from the facility in late 1998.

Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is a broad-scope telecommunications company supplying mobile phones, mobile and fixed telecommunications networks, data communications solutions, multimedia terminals and computer monitors. With sales in 130 countries, net sales totaled FIM 52.6 billion (US $9.8 billion) in 1997. Nokia employs more than 36,000 people worldwide.
