Nokia and SONOFON sign DKK one billion frame agreement for GSM solutions

SONOFON, the leading Danish GSM operator and Nokia have signed a frame agreement to the value of approximately DKK one billion. Nokia has been selected as the sole supplier to SONOFON of the GSM 1800 network. Deliveries commence immediately and will continue up to the year 2000.
The Nokia GSM 1800 infrastructure equipment will enable SONOFON to increase the capacity available to subscribers in the GSM network. Nokia will deliver a range of equipment to SONOFON, including the Nokia base station systems as well as network management and customer service solutions. SONOFON has also signed a frame agreement with Nokia which covers supply of GSM 900 switching capability. Also included is a commitment to Nokia's Intelligent Network solution.

Our significant investment in Nokia's Intelligent Network solutions will also make service creation easy and quick to implement. This network expansion will make the evolution to the next generation easier for us."

SONOFON is Denmark's second largest telecommunications company and has a turnover of more than DKK 2 bn and some 900 employees. SONOFON is owned by GN Great Nordic (53.5%) and BellSouth (46.5%). Since the company began its operation in 1992, it has built up a national mobile phone network, a solid customer base and SONOFON partner - a franchise-based chain of shops. The company introduces new services on a continuous basis, most recently international long-distance (ILD) and prepaid phonecards.
