SL Bansystem, Sweden, to implement Nokia's compact SYNFONET Access Node
February 11, 1998
Nokia has signed the first SYNFONET Access Node (SAN) contract with SL Bansystem, Sweden. The equipment will be used to provide the transmission of voice and data in the Stockholm Underground. Deliveries will begin in the summer of 1998.
Nokia will also be providing a range of customer services to SL Bansystem, including network configuration, installation and integration.
As Mr Anders Ahrsjö, SL Bansystem comments, "Nokia and SL Bansystem have been co-operating since 1989, and Nokia supplied SL Bansystem's first SDH network in 1996. We have been happy with Nokia's performance in terms of both delivery and competence, as well as its state-of-the-art products, such as the SAN. This was our main criteria for selecting Nokia as our SDH Access Node supplier."
"We are pleased that SL Bansystem has chosen to implement the Nokia SYNFONET Access Node in its network," states Mr Hans Holmberg, Vice-President, Dedicated Networks. "The Nokia SAN solution is a compact and cost-effective customer premises solution for SDH networks. It is a highly suitable solution for railway applications, such as those implemented by SL Bansystem. "
SL Bansystem AB operates the Stockholm underground's telecommunications network. It has a fibre optic network covering the whole of the greater Stockholm area, mainly laid in the underground train tunnels. The network is used for the telecommunications applications that the underground system is running
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for cellular and fixed networks. Nokia has developed a comprehensive SDH solution, the Nokia SYNFONET, for effective access and transport networks incorporated under a full network management system. The Nokia SYNFONET solution enables the operator to flexibly build their network for future data and broadband solutions. Nokia's SDH technology has been supplied to or ordered by more than 70 customers in over 20 countries.
