ISIS, Germany, providing fixed network services with Nokia's SYNFONET Access Node
February 11, 1998
ISIS Multimedia Net GmbH, one of the leading fixed network operators in Germany, has selected Nokia for the supply of its SYNFONET Access Node (SAN). This equipment will be used to provide fixed network services direct to the ISIS customer's location. Deliveries will take place in April and after a four-week-testing period, the system is expected to be operational in May this year.
Additionally, Nokia will supply software maintenance and Emergency Support services to ISIS.
"ISIS first selected Nokia for the supply of its SYNFONET solution in1996, and we have been working together since," states Mr Andre Berndt, ISIS Communications Director. "Nokia's SAN solution enables us to provide SDH directly to our end customer. It is easy to install and has a high level of integration, making it an ideal solution for our needs. Additionally, one of our most strict criteria is the future proofness of the technology; we know that the Nokia SAN product can grow with our network demands."
As Mr Jörns Haberströh, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications GmbH explains," ISIS is moving ahead very rapidly in the fast-developing German telecommunications market and needs the right solutions to meet its exacting growth demands. The selection of the Nokia SAN solution by ISIS, proves its capabilities in such demanding environments."
The Nokia SAN is a genuine STM-1 node and therefore provides the same benefits as the entire SYNFONET product range. SAN is especially developed for solutions where compactness and high functionality are particularly important. Such applications areas can include last-fibre mile connection in urban or residential environments or base station connections. The SAN is configurable as TM (Terminal Multiplexer) or ADM (Add/Drop Multiplexer) and has all the basic SDH features mounted onto one core plug-in unit that can also have 8 x 2Mbit/s interfaces. When more tributary interfaces are needed, simply add additional tributary interface units to the node, each providing 21 x 2 Mbit/s.
ISIS is owned by Westdeutsche Landesbank, Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG and Stadtwerke Neuss GmbH, both regional departments of works of the local government. ISIS received a licence in 1996, from the German Post Ministry to build and operate a corporate private network covering Düsseldorf, the capital of the North Rhine, Westphalia, spreading from Duisburg to Dormagen and from Korschenbroich to Mettmann, including Ratingen, Neuss and Krefeld.
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for mobile and fixed networks. Nokia has developed a comprehensive SDH solution, the Nokia SYNFONET, for effective access and transport networks, incorporated under a full network management system. The Nokia SYNFONET enables the operator to flexibly build their network for future data and broadband solutions. Nokia's SDH technology has been supplied to or ordered by more than 70 customers in over 20 countries.
