Nokia and Pannon continue successful co-operation with GSM in Hungary

Nokia and Pannon GSM in Hungary, have signed an extension agreement to their long-term frame contract for the supply of GSM equipment. This extends the scope of the frame contract signed in February 1997. The new agreement is worth more than USD 50 million. Nokia remains the sole supplier for Pannon's GSM network.
Nokia will supply GSM network infrastructure equipment to Pannon GSM, including the highly flexible Nokia mobile switching centre and base station systems. Nokia will also provide value-added service solutions, such as an Intelligent Network (IN) platform and wireless data solutions, including the Nokia Artus product family. Implementation and technical support services are also included. The deliveries will support Pannon's plans to improve the GSM network quality and capacity.
The contract is the continuation of the co-operation that began in 1993 when Nokia was chosen to supply a GSM network to Pannon.
Pannon GSM's network has been operational since 1994. The company is a consortium of Dutch PTT, Telecom Finland, Tele Denmark, Telenor of Norway and MOL, Antenna Hungária and Wallis of Hungary. At the end of December 1997 Pannon GSM had more than 260,000 subscribers.
