Nokia Receives "Best of What's New" Grand Award for Nokia 9000 Communicator
November 12, 1997
Nokia, a world leader in digital technologies, today announced the selection of their Nokia 9000 Communicator as a 1997 "Best of What's New" Grand Award recipient in the electronics category from Popular Science magazine.
The revolutionary Nokia 9000 Communicator combines digital voice, data and personal organizer functions into a single, small-sized and easy-to-use unit. In addition to voice calls, the Nokia 9000 Communicator enables users to send and receive faxes, e-mail and short messages as well as access Internet services and corporate and public databases. The product also provides users with organization functions such as electronic calendar, address book, notepad, calculator and world clock.
Each year, the editors of Popular Science select 100 products for the "Best of What's New" from the annual review of thousands of new products, technology developments and scientific achievements. Grand awards are presented to the top product in each of 10 categories named by the publication. Popular Science's December 1997 issue marks the 10th anniversary of the awards program with a cover story and 26-page special editorial section highlighting the staff's selections. Popular Science offers Internet users the opportunity to select the Readers' Choice Award from among the 100 winners chosen. The selection will be announced January 5, 1998.
"Nokia is honored by Popular Science's electronics top award," said Matt Wisk, vice president, customer marketing, Nokia Mobile Phones, who was on hand at the presentation in New York to accept the award. "The publication's recognition further supports how truly unique and innovative the Nokia 9000 Communicator is."
Since its launch, the Nokia 9000 Communicator has received numerous awards worldwide including: the International Engineering Consortium's 1997 "InfoVision Award;" the 1997 International Consumer Electronics Show "Innovations" Award; the GSM MoU Association "GSM World Award" at the GSM World Conference; and BYTE Magazine's "Best of Show" award at CeBIT '96.
