Jiangxi Pta China, signs agreement with Nokia for GSM network expansion

Nokia and Jiangxi Post and Telecommunications Adminstration, China, have signed an agreement for the third expansion of the Jiangxi GSM 900 network. Deliveries will begin shortly and the expanded network will be completely in operation during autumn 1998. The value of the contract is estimated at over USD 40 million. The network capacity will increase to approximately 370,000 subscibers.
Nokia will deliver a range of GSM 900 network equipment to Jiangxi, including the high capacity Nokia mobile switching centre, home locations registers and base station controllers.
"The further expansion of the Jiangxi network is very important for Nokia," explains Folke Ahlbäck, Senior Vice President, Nokia, Greater China. "Jiangxi PTA only launched their network in 1995, and this third expansion in only two years since the network launch is a strong indication of Jiangxi's commitment to increasing market demand and confirmation of the capabilities of Nokia's GSM 900 solution."
Jiangxi PTA and Nokia signed an agreement for the supply of the first phase of the network in 1995 and the network was taken into operation in the first half of 1996. A supply agreement for second phase expansion was also signed in 1996 between Nokia and Jiangxi PTA.
Nokia offers total GSM systems, with everything from digital mobile phones to transmission and switching. Having supplied GSM technology to 65 operators in 34 countries, Nokia ranks as the world's largest supplier of GSM 1800 networks and one of the two largest in GSM 900.
