NOKIA display products enters Flat Panel display arena
November 17, 1997
Introduces 300Xa Super-TFT 13.3-inch LCD Display – Slender Footprint with Superior Image Quality
Nokia Display Products, Inc. today expanded its award-winning suite of display products with its first LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) offering: The 300Xa Flat Panel Display. Developed specifically for environments where space is at a premium, the 300Xa combines a sleek design and small footprint with Nokia’s standard-setting picture quality. The 300Xa also boasts an optimal resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
"The 300Xa is a natural addition to our display line," said John Grundy, vice president of marketing for Nokia Display Products, Inc. "The product represents the integration of Nokia’s core monitor design principles with the latest in flat panel technology development. We have always been committed to delivering superior quality display solutions for Fortune 100 corporations as well as specific vertical markets such as the financial and healthcare industries."
Super-TFT Perfects LCD Image
In addition to taking up considerably less desk space than its CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) counterparts, the 300Xa offers a superior image. The flat panel display is based on Super-TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology. The result is an active matrix display in which transistors are switched on and off to create the sharpest possible image. In fact, the 300Xa has no flicker, no distortion and supports up to 16.7 million colors. For users, this translates into the industry’s leading picture quality in a flat panel display offering. The active matrix technology also prevents the phantom images that often appear in traditional passive matrix LCDs, such as those found on many laptop PCs.
The 300Xa display is further enhanced by its wide viewing angle of 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally, enabling several people to easily view documents or images simultaneously. The 300Xa offers a viewable diagonal size of 13.3 inches – the equivalent of a 15-inch CRT display.
CRT Quality, LCD Efficiency
Nokia has long been recognized as a leader in the CRT display arena. The company has taken great care to ensure its entrance into the LCD market represents the same level of commitment to quality. The 300Xa consumes only 40 watts of electricity – maximizing power efficiency. The product also complies with all applicable emission standards, including TCO’95. It puts out virtually no emissions, integrates as many recyclable components as possible and does not use harmful chemicals in the product or in the manufacturing process.
"The flat panel display market is on a steady growth path," explained Grundy, "and we are taking every step to ensure that Nokia’s technology leadership in CRTs translates onto this new platform."
Additional Features
Other key features of the Nokia 300Xa include built-in speakers with stereo sound and a microphone, as well as separate power, audio volume and brightness controls. Additional adjustments can be made with the help of an on-screen menu. The Automatic Adjustment feature eliminates the need for initial set-up adjustments. With one push of the menu button, you can choose to automatically optimize size and positioning of the screen image, significantly simplifying installation.
To fulfill a wide range of customer requirements, two accessories are available for the 300Xa. These include an arm-mount bracket and a tilt swivel wall mount bracket. Both mounting accessories allow users in a wide variety of industries, particularly the medical and financial professions, to customize installation to best suit their individual needs.
Pricing and Availability
The Nokia 300Xa Flat Panel Display is currently available with an estimated street price of $2,249. The 300Xa is also covered by a three-year warranty from Nokia.
