Europolitan launches new advanced services based on Nokia's mobile intelligent network solution
November 26, 1997
Europolitan, a fast-growing GSM operator in Sweden, has announced the launch of its new service packages based on Nokia's mobile Intelligent Network (IN) system. This is the first ever commercially available mobile IN system that is based on a new, advanced design. This design enables Europolitan to rapidly offer a wealth of new services to their customers, making use of the newest in mobile service creation and implementation.
Based on this Nokia mobile Intelligent Network design, Europolitan has now launched the new "Europolitan Easy" service, a Prepaid service for its GSM customers. This essentially means that Europolitan's customers can purchase a predetermined amount of call time, enabling them to effectively control their call costs. The "Europolitan Easy" service provides a wide range of new services for Europolitan's mobile customers. For example, users will be able to have a voice mail service, the possibility of international calls, and a warning announcement when only a small amount of call time is left on the account. There is no risk of any negative balance on the account, ensuring complete control of the call costs.
Europolitan is also launching services for its GSM subscribers, all possible with the mobile IN system, including the "EuroManager" Service. This service enables corporate customers to decide what kind of mobile calls are available to their employees. They can define one of a number of different call-access categories for each employee, so for example, some employees may only be allowed to call within the company, while others can call to approved international numbers. One key advantage that the "EuroManager" Service brings to Europolitan's business customer is the ability to easily access its own call-access categories via the Internet from its own computer.
For network operators like Europolitan, service administration is a key issue. Effective service adminstration is achieved with Nokia’s mobile Intelligent Network solution. The Nokia Service Management Access Point, (SMAP) part of the Nokia Intelligent Network solution, offers a web interface to the Intelligent Network service data to be used by Europolitan's Customer Care. This provides an easy interface for Europolitan to manage the large amount of data information in the network. Additionally, Nokia is also providing a Bulk Provisioning tool for Prepaid subscriptions, again facilitating Europolitan's administrative process.
Nokia's mobile Intelligent Network solution enables operators to quickly create and add new telephone services to their networks. This means that they can better and more easily serve their customers by tailoring services to specific markets as well as dramatically reducing the time it takes to get a service from the stage of being an idea through to a viable service for a mobile user.
Nokia also provides its customers with comprehensive support in building, operating and developing both cellular and fixed networks. To date, Nokia has supplied GSM technology to 65 operators in 34 countries.
