Mobitai selects Nokia's SYNFONET solution for the first live SDH network in Taiwan
November 27, 1997
Mobitai and Nokia have signed an agreement for the supply of SDH equipment for the Mobitai network in Taiwan. This is the first implementation of an SDH network in Taiwan.
Nokia will deliver Nokia's flexible SYNFONET SDH STM-1/4 solution and the Nokia NMS/10 network management system to Mobitai. Services including implementation and technical support are also included.
As Mr Jack Chen of Mobitai explains, "We are very pleased to have Nokia as our partner for the implementation of this first SDH network in Taiwan. Their innovative solutions for both SDH and network management made them a clear choice for us."
"This deal with Mobitai is an important milestone for Nokia", states Mr. Kari Tala, General Manager (FAS) of Nokia Greater China. "As an existing GSM operator Mobitai is establishing itself as a market innovator in Taiwan. With the future-proof Nokia SYNFONET solution, operators such as Mobitai are assured of a smooth evolution of the network to cope with the fast moving telecommunication environment."
Mobitai is a venture between Teco, China Steel, Lai Lai Holmescreen and Sumitomo. Mobitai is one of the new GSM operators in Taiwan and plans to launch the GSM network later this year.
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for fixed and cellular networks. The Nokia SYNFONET system for effective access and transport networks is incorporated under a full network management system. The Nokia SYNFONET solution enables the operator to flexibly build their network in view of future data and broadband solutions. Nokia's SDH technology has been supplied to or ordered by more than 60 customers in nearly 20 countries.
