Nokia Supplies Third Actionet Trunking System to the Enso Group of Finland
October 09, 1997
Enso Fine Papers’ Veitsiluoto factory based in the city of Kemi, Northern Finland has ordered Nokia’s Actionet trunked mobile radio system to replace its conventional radio system. Nokia will deliver a complete Actionet system, including a switching centre, base stations and radio terminals to Enso Fine Papers. Nokia has previously delivered its Actionet system to Enso Fine Papers' factories in the Finnish cities of Oulu and Varkaus
The Kemi factory's existing radio system could no longer meet the growing demands of the both its users and the factory’s logistics system. Enso Fine Papers chose Nokia’s Actionet solution as it provides fast and reliable, individual and group communications for its employees. The same Actionet network also provides the possibility to implement wireless data applications, such as the sending of text messages, on top of it.
One of Enso Fine Papers’ main criteria was that Actionet could be interconnected with the factory’s existing conventional radio system. Existing radios can now be used until the end of their normal life cycle and users can implement the Actionet services gradually.
The Enso Veitsiluoto Mills, with some 1,900 employees, produces more than one million tons of paper, mainly printing and fine papers. In 1996 its net sales were approximately FIM 3 billion with some 90 % coming from export sales. The factory is part of the Enso Group, which is one of the biggest forest industry companies in Europe.
Nokia is a leading supplier of MPT 1327 standard trunked mobile networks and has delivered its MPT 1327 based Actionet system to more than 100 customers in more than 30 countries.
