Nokia’s Actionet Trunking Radio System Lands at Palma de Mallorca Airport
October 10, 1997

Spain’s second biggest airport, Palma de Mallorca, on the island of Mallorca, has chosen Nokia’s Actionet trunked mobile radio system to provide reliable and fast mobile communications for the airport's internal communications network. Nokia has delivered a complete Actionet system to Palma de Mallorca, including a switching centre, base stations and radio terminals. The network has already been taken into operational use.

The Actionet radio network is being used mainly for flight preparation, where several departments or organisations are involved such as fuelling, catering, technical departments, gate operations, luggage handling and security functions. The same Actionet system is shared with the airport’s emergency services.

At airports, the reliable operation of the radio network is crucial and many different organisations require radio connections for their internal communications. At Palma de Mallorca airport, Nokia’s Actionet system serves the communication needs of both the domestic and international airlines.

Palma de Mallorca airport is part of the Spanish authority Aeropuertos Espanoles y Navegación Aérea providing services throughout the country. One deciding factor for the airport's selection of Actionet, was Actionet’s good references in other parts of Spain. Nokia Actionet has gained a strong position as the market leader in trunking systems in Spain. Actionet systems are used in public trunking and utility networks by many operators throughout the country.

Nokia is a leading supplier of MPT 1327 standard trunked mobile networks and has delivered its MPT 1327 based Actionet system to more than 100 customers in more than 30 countries.
