Nokia and Sapura Join Forces in Software Development

Nokia Telecommunications and Sapura Holding’s have today signed a joint venture agreement in establishing a new Research and Development company in Malaysia. The event was witnessed by YE Dato’ Leo Moggie, Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and Post.



Sapura and Nokia have established their first joint venture in 1992 through Sapura Nokia Telecommunications Sdn Bhd. The new company Sapura Nokia Software Sdn Bhd will further improve Nokia and Sapura’s successful cooperation in Malaysia and deepen Nokia’s commitment and support for Malaysia’s economic growth. Sapura Nokia Software Sdn Bhd, will concentrate on the development of software for telecommunications equipment. The software development in Malaysia will further increase the Malaysian content of the Nokia’s products sold in Malaysia by Sapura Nokia Telecommunications. Majority of the developed products are to be exported to the global markets.

The development projects of the company will bring great amount of advanced digital switching software technology and competence to Malaysia. In the process of technology transfer several Malaysians has and will receive months of training in Finland, including courses on R&D management, technology and process training. Sapura Nokia Software Sdn Bhd hopes to also participate in the Multimedia Super Corridor project of Malaysia.

Sapura having pioneered Malaysia’s telecommunications industry, has had involvement in almost every aspect of the business such as design, manufacturing, installation, operation, setting up communications systems and networks, apart from marketing and distribution of telecommunications products, project engineering and cable network engineering and installation services locally and in Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, Philippines and the United States.
