New Nokia ACM4 High-Capacity Primary Multiplexer
October 21, 1997
- Bringing Efficiency for Telephone Subscriber Applications
Nokia introduces today at the European Cable Communications ‘97 show in London, a new member to the Nokia ACM product family; the Nokia ACM4, the new, highly-efficient 2Mbit/s primary multiplexer. The ACM4 complements Nokia’s range of primary multiplexing equipment, the Nokia ACM family, guaranteeing efficiency and reliability both now and for the future.
Revolutionising telephone subscriber applications
The Nokia ACM4 is a 2 Mbit/s primary multiplexer, designed for the latest market demands. With 240 telephone channels in one 19” subrack, this multiplexer offers revolutionary efficiency for telephone subscriber applications. The ACM4 belongs to the proven Nokia ACM family, utilising the same reliable platform as the ACM2, with the same power feeding units and mechanics. The ACM4 allows the operator to deliver and maintain high-quality speech channel services with comprehensive management and configuration control. Space efficiency is improved with reduced power consumption, lower heat dissipation and double the packaging density compared to the ACM2. The ACM4 uses Mercury line code supporting telephony and loop start PBXs.
Space-efficient and flexible
The Nokia ACM4 makes space work for you rather than against you. 60 channels can be delivered using two 30-channel subscriber units and a Multiplexer Control Unit. Up to four ACM4s can be accommodated in a standard 19" subrack, thus delivering 240 telephone channels. This significantly reduces the space needed for service delivery in outdoor cabinet installations. Alternatively, by dividing the subrack into four quadrants, a mixture of ACM family multiplexers - ACM2 V2, ACM2 V5.1 and ACM4 - can share the same subrack. The basic subscriber interface meets the requirements of an analogue 2-wire subscriber signalling interface and caters for POTS, public/coin telephone and P(A)BX exchange lines. A Subrack Power Adapter (SPA) or Enhanced Power Supply Adapter (EPSA) is used to power the units.
A multitude of benefits
The improved packaging density means that using the existing subracks, ACM4 units can be deployed in part of the subrack, clearing space for deployment of other services, such as ISDN or broadband access technology. Moreover, the ACM4 can be installed into existing ACM2 mechanics, thus easing upgrades from
ACM2 to ACM4. Add this to the lower power consumption per subscriber interface and the good voice quality for modern subscriber loops, and the benefits of the ACM4 are clear.
Still further benefits are gained from the support for CLI-functionality (Calling Line Identification) on the 30-channel subscriber unit, and the flash memory technology which enables local software update without component changes.
The Nokia ACM4 brings greater efficiency for telephone subscriber applications and competitive advantages to the operator’s business.
