Telia Selects Nokia to Improve the Flexibility of the Transmission Network
October 22, 1997

Telia Finland Oy and Nokia Telecommunications have signed a contract for the supply of SDH transmission equipment to increase the flexibility of Telia's transmission network in Finland. This new agreement includes Nokia’s SYNFONET STM-16 DXC nodes and delivery will start at the end of this year, continuing through to the beginning of next year.

Nokia is supplying SYNFONET STM 1/4 equipment and other transmission products as well as Nokia’s highly integrated and extremely compact SYNFONET STM-16 DXC nodes. The STM-16 nodes will be deployed at major stations in Telia’s network in Finland. These new deliveries will complement Telia Finland’s existing Nokia SDH transmission equipment. The SDH nodes will be managed under the Nokia Network Management System, Nokia NMS/100.

"Our network requirements are extremely demanding and Nokia’s STM-16 equipment will give us the necessary greater capacity and higher availability." states Mr. Jouko Tervo, Director, Network Services, Telia Finland. "This agreement will provide the improved connection protection we need."

“We are very pleased to continue our long-established relationship with Telia in Finland. This is a very significant STM-16 deal and shows once again Nokia’s ability and reliability in delivering the latest technology and equipment” comments Mr. Kari Suneli, Senior Vice President, Fixed Access Systems, Nokia.

Nokia and Telia Finland have had a long-term relationship going back to when Telia Finland was first founded under the name of Telivo. Telia Finland is owned by the Swedish Telia AB.

Nokia's comprehensive SDH solution, Nokia SYNFONET, is designed for effective access and transport networks incorporated under a full network management system. The Nokia SYNFONET solution enables the operator to flexibly build their network, taking into account future data and broadband solutions. Nokia's SDH technology has been supplied to more than 60 customers in 20 countries.
