Nokia Receives International Engineering Consortium Award for Nokia 9000 Communicator

Nokia today announced that it has been selected as a recipient of the International Engineering Consortium’s 1997 InfoVision Award for the Nokia 9000 Communicator.
The revolutionary Nokia 9000 Communicator combines digital voice, data and personal organizer functions into a single, small-sized and easy-to-use unit. In addition to voice calls, the Nokia 9000 Communicator enables users to send and receive faxes, e-mail and short messages as well as access Internet services and corporate and public databases. The product also provides users with organization functions such as electronic calendar, address book, notepad and calculator.
The InfoVision Award recognizes the Industry’s most significant innovations in new products and services along with the companies and professionals responsible for their development. Award-winning products and services were judged in the following categories: innovation, uniqueness, market impact, customer benefits, and value to society.
The 1997 InfoVision Award will be presented today at an awards luncheon during the National Communications Forum and the InfoVision New Technology Exposition, October 21-23, in Chicago.
With the introduction of the Nokia 9000 Communicator in Europe, Asia and now the Americas, Nokia continues to lead the wireless industry with innovative new products and solutions. In addition, last week in Germany, Nokia was presented with the German Eduard Rhein Foundation’s Technology Award for pioneering digital technology work in GSM research and development. Nokia was specifically recognized "for fundamental innovations and advanced design work, in particular for contributions related to GSM handheld cellular telephones".
