Tele2, Sweden, Continues with Nokia for Fixed Switching Solutions
October 24, 1997
Nokia and Tele2, Sweden, have signed an agreement for the provision of fixed switching equipment. Deliveries will commence immediately and the switching system will be operational in early 1998.
Nokia will be supplying its state-of-the-art DX 200 switching platform to Tele2. The equipment will be providing national and terminating traffic services for indirectly connected as well as directly connected subscribers. The DX 200 switching platform will work in tandem with the existing DX 200 switches in the network. Nokia will also be providing installation and other customer services. Nokia is the sole supplier of switching equipment on the international and transit level of Tele2’s network.
As Mr Krister Skålberg, Unit Manager, Operations and Technology, Netcom Systems explains, "We have been working with Nokia since 1992, when we first selected the Nokia DX 200 switch for our fixed network needs. These switches have performed well in the network, with a high-quality functionality. Continuing with Nokia for further DX 200 switches was a natural choice. Nokia has been able to meet our needs which always is a key factor for our selection. ."
"We consider Tele2 a strategic partner and are therefore very pleased to sign this agreement", comments Mr. Nils Lagerström, Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications Sweden. "Tele2's choice of our DX 200 once more confirms Nokia's position as a fixed switching supplier. The DX 200 provides Tele2 with a future-proof, flexible digital switching solution."
Tele2 is the second operator in Sweden and the leading privately owned operator. Tele2 is part of Netcom Systems which owns several fixed and mobile operators in Scandinavia. Tele2 has approximately 280,000 indirect subscribers in Sweden. Tele2 has, in a very short time, been able to capture 22% of international traffic, and over 11% of national and long-distance traffic. Tele2 is also a market leader in internet services with a market share of approximately 50%.
Nokia Telecommunications develops and manufactures infrastructure equipment and systems for fixed and cellular networks. Nokia's switching solutions and applications are built on the DX 200 switching platform, used in cellular and fixed applications alike. The DX 200 also offers a growth path to broadband applications, including future developments in ATM switching technology. Nokia has delivered its DX 200 switching solutions to around 120 operators in over 30 countries around the world.
