Nokia 446Xpro Packs a Professional Performance
October 27, 1997
Nokia’s 19-inch 446Xpro display packs much more information than a 17-inch display for virtually the same desk space. The difference is an impressive 60 per cent when the respective resolutions are 1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768. With resolutions matching those of 20-inch displays, the Nokia 446Xpro packs the performance of a large professional display while placing less strain on the corporate budget.
The razor sharp picture of the new Nokia display can be adjusted in many dimensions, making it the natural choice for such demanding professional multi-window environments as desktop publishing, CAD/CAM and desktop imaging.
Top of the resolution rankings
The Nokia 446Xpro’s horizontal (line) frequency of 107 kHz is unequalled in the 19-inch display category. As a result, the image of the new display is flicker free right up to the record high maximum resolution of 1600 x 1280. The refresh rate is 80 Hz at the maximum resolution. The graphic designer working with exact alignments and fine graphic details will appreciate the accuracy of edges achieved through the small dot pitch of 0.26 mm
Thanks to static convergence adjustment, the professional user gets a sharp picture at all resolutions. Dynamic focusing of the image by means of a dynamic quadropole focus lens system ensures that the picture is equally sharp in all parts of the screen, corners included.
Nokia’s new Moire cancellation technology, which effectively cancels the wavy pattern with no loss of focus or clarity in the picture, further enhances the picture quality. TCO'95 approval is proof of the overall visual ergonomics and low electromagnetic emissions of the Nokia 446Xpro.
Acclaimed ease of use
The user interface of Nokia’s new professional range of displays, in which the Nokia 446Xpro is included, has had an enthusiastic reception in trade press. The front panels of the displays have easy access controls for brightness and contrast, the two most frequently adjusted settings, and a single button Navi KeyTM control for all other adjustments. The On-Screen Menu, operated by means of the Navi KeyTM, enables the user to navigate through the adjustment options and choose precisely the settings required.
Professionals working with visually weighted PC applications, such as layout work, will appreciate the ease of adjusting the clarity of the picture or the colour temperature. The quality of the display picture makes all the difference for the ease and enjoyment of work, let alone the outcome.
The Auto-Shape menu option automatically adjusts the size, position and other geometry of the picture. The On-Screen Menus of later versions of the Nokia 446Xpro will include password protection of the display settings, with authorised persons only allowed to change the settings.
The system interface of the Nokia 446Xpro includes dual signal input (BNC and D-Sub connector), allowing two computer systems to be connected to the monitor. Professional users will appreciate the ease of switching from system to system. The front panel of the display has a straight access BNC/D-Sub switch for display of the desired picture.
Easy on power and budgets
TCO'95 approval requires that the display meet set values on power consumption in the different operating modes. The Nokia 446Xpro consumes less than 5 W electricity in the power saving off mode, as against TCO’95 requirement of 8 W.
The Nokia 446Xpro is a performance-packed display for professional use. The new 19-inch display also represents a financially attractive upgrading option for the information technology manager in charge of equipment.
