September 04, 1997
Nokia, the world's most innovative mobile phone manufacturer, today introduced its newest product, the Nokia 252. Billed as the "World's Most Fashionable Phone," the Nokia 252 analog cellular phone was presented by supermodel Niki Taylor, at Fashion Cafe in New York City.
The Nokia 252 sports a stylish, contoured shape and its 1998 color palette includes a wide range of high-gloss and brushed metallic finishes such as Midnight Black, Hunter Green, Turbo Red, Pewter, Antique Bronze and Signal Glow, to name a few.
"We are always looking for new ways to blend technology with today's lifestyles. What Nokia has inspired marks the transition of the phone -- used not only for its function as a personal communication tool, but also as a fashion accessory," said Matt Wisk, director of marketing at Nokia. "Because of our years of customer research, Nokia recognizes the sophisticated expectations of today's consumer. Our goal is to give people the choice to express themselves with unique and colorful options to reflect the individual's personal style."
In addition to being a world-leading manufacturer of wireless products, Nokia has also been an industry leader in the evolution of the cellular phone into mainstream use. Initial changes such as design, styling and materials advancements have been key elements to the transformation allowing for lighter and more appealing products that are easy to use. Additionally, Nokia has led the industry by incorporating "personality" to differentiate its products. Nokia started its color research more than seven years ago and introduced its first colored cellular phones in Europe and the United States in 1992. Since then, new applications and exotic patterns and textures have been an integral part of the Nokia product line.
The Nokia 252, in its introductory configuration (with extended NiCd battery) weighs 6.2 ounces and provides all-day-long performance with 125 minutes of talk time and 30 hours of standby time. An optional NiCd extended vibrating battery pack or slim NiMH battery are also available.
Headquarted in Finland, Nokia is a leader in digital technologies including mobile phones, cellular and fixed telecommunications networks, wireless data solutions and multimedia terminals. With sales in approximately 130 countries, net sales totaled $8.5 billion in 1996. Nokia employs more than 34,000 people in 45 countries. Nokia's shares are listed in Helsinki, New York, London, Stockholm, Frankfurt and Paris.
