Nokia Announces Collaboration With Third Party Companies in Connection With North American Launch of Nokia 9000i Communicator

Nokia working with third party software developers, hardware manufacturers and GSM 1900 network operators for value-added solutions
Coinciding with Nokia's announcement of the availability of the GSM 1900 version of the award-winning Nokia 9000i Communicator, Nokia announced that it is actively recruiting and collaborating with partners in North America, as well as in Europe and Asia, to provide wireless data solutions to customers. The establishment of the Partnership Program reinforces Nokia's commitment to grow the enhanced communicator and intelligent mobile phone market, as well as to provide new and innovative solutions to wireless customers.
In an effort to increase overall user friendliness of the Nokia 9000i Communicator, Nokia is working with companies like PUMA (desktop synchronization) and TeamWARE (Internet-based communication services) to provide connectivity and value-added solutions. In addition, Nokia is working with experts in vertical markets, such as Aurum Software (sales force automation), Scopus (customer care) and Data Critical Corp. (medical) to develop software applications or hardware compatibility for the Nokia 9000i Communicator in order to provide users with a customized business tool.

"By forming long-term relationships with other companies who are experts in their fields, we are able to develop new vertical solutions for markets such as financial, insurance, real estate, consulting, banking and utilities. This provides a new customer base not only for Nokia, but for GSM network operators," said Hoopes.
Within the development environment, Nokia expects the Partnership Program to continue to grow as the Nokia 9000i Communicator offers a two development options for third party software developers. As the Nokia 9000i Communicator has a very and flexible operating system environment, companies can develop solutions using web-based applications using html 3.2, or utilize Geoworks' Nokia 9000i Communicator Software Development Kit (SDK) for add-on applications.
