Nokia And Omnitel Sign a Major GSM Base Station System Deal

Nokia has signed a frame agreement for BSS (base station system) infrastructure deliveries to Omnitel Pronto Italia, for an estimated value of approximately 400 BITL (close to USD 230 million). This deal continues the expansion of Omnitel's GSM network. The partnership between Omnitel and Nokia began in late 1994.
Commenting on the deal Mr. Silvio Scaglia, CEO, Omnitel Pronto Italia stated, " We are happy to continue our partnership with Nokia. To have a prompt and flexible supplier, has been, is, and will be, a key factor for our success."

Omnitel Pronto Italia's shareholders include Olivetti, Bell Atlantic, Air Touch, Mannesmann, Cellular Communication and Telia. It is the licensee of the second national GSM network in Italy. Omnitel is the first private mobile operator in Italy, with currently approximately 1,6 million GSM subscribers.
