Nokia and Omnitel Sign a Major GSM Switching Contract

Nokia and Omnitel Pronto Italia have agreed on the supply of Nokia Network Systems infrastructure deliveries to Omnitel Pronto Italia. This equipment will be used for the expansion of the Omnitel GSM network. The value of the contract is approximately 300 BITL (over 170 USD million).
As Mr. Silvio Scaglia, CEO, Omnitel Pronto Italia comments about this contract, "We are happy to continue our partnership with Nokia. To have a prompt and flexible supplier, has been, is, and will be, a key factor for our success."
Omnitel Pronto Italia's shareholders include Olivetti, Bell Atlantic, Air Touch, Mannesmann, Cellular Communication and Telia. It is the licensee of the second national GSM network in Italy. Omnitel is the first private mobile operator in Italy, with currently approximately 1,6 million GSM subscribers.

Nokia is the world’s second largest supplier of GSM networks, and the market leader in mobile data infrastructure. To date, Nokia GSM technology has been supplied to or ordered by 61 operators in 33 countries.
