Nokia and Dassault A.T. Deliver Turnkey GSM 1800 Cellular Network to Bouygues Telecom, Eastern France

Bouygues Telecom has selected the partnership of Nokia and the French company Dassault A.T., for the delivery of a turnkey GSM 1800 cellular network in Lorraine in the east of France. This project reinforces the partnership between Bouygues Telecom and the GIE Dassault A.T.-Nokia. The GIE Dassault A.T.-Nokia has already been selected by Bouygues Telecom for the delivery of a turnkey GSM 1800 system in the North of France.
The contract includes the supply of base stations and base station controllers, cellular transmission equipment, network management systems and antennas. Services, including site research and preparation, network engineering and optimisation, implementation and maintenance will also be supplied.
Bouygues Telecom is the first French operator to develop and operate a nationwide GSM 1800 cellular network. Its network was launched on 29 May 1996 in the Paris region with the aim of opening the market from mobile telephony for few, towards personal telephony for everyone. In addition to the Paris region, Bouygues Telecom already covers the regions of Rhônes-Alpes, Côte d’Azur and Normandy (departments of Eure, Seine Maritime as well as a part of Calvados). Bouygues Telecom network will cover 50% of the French population by the end of this year, 80% by the end of 1998 and 90% by mid 1999.
The GIE Dassault A.T.-Nokia partnership brings together Dassault A.T.’s local competence in cellular network implementation and Nokia’s proven GSM 1800 technology. The partnership was established in October 1995, with the objective of implementing GSM 1800 networks.
Dassault Automatismes et Télécommunications (Groupe Dassault Electronique), supplies systems and products to telecommunications and audiovisual operators, retailers, transportation operators and banking groups. The company, well-known specialist in subscribers access networks, has extensive experience in the design, deployment and maintenance of telecommunications systems for public networks. Dassault A.T. employs 830 people and its consolidated turnover amounted to FRF 1415 million in 1996.
