Nokia Supplies GSM Network Expansion to China Unicom Shanghai Branch

Nokia Telecommunications has been chosen to be the main Base Station Subsystem supplier for the third phase expansion of China Unicom Shanghai Branch’s GSM network expansion in China. The contract further strengthens Nokia's position as a leading GSM supplier to the fast-growing China telecommunications market.
Nokia will supply state-of-the-art Base Station Controllers, Base Stations, as well as compact Nokia PrimeSite Base Stations, enabling operators to increase network coverage and capacity. Nokia will also provide services, including network planning and installation. The total contract value is approximately USD 10 million.
Nokia signed a deal with China Unicom in 1995, for the delivery of the second phase of its GSM network in Shanghai. This included the supply of a total Base Station Subsystem.
After the third phase expansion, the network will have capacity for a total of 150,000 subscribers in Shanghai.
