Nokia Continues GSM Network Expansion with Yunnan PTA, China
June 18, 1997
Beijing Nokia MobileTelecommunications Co., Ltd and Yunnan PTA, PRC, have signed an agreement for the further extension of the GSM network in the Yunnan province. The value of the contract is approximately USD 90 million and continues the partnership between Nokia and Yunnan PTA which began in 1996. Deliveries will commence in September 1997.
Nokia will supply a number of Nokia Mobile Switching Centres and Nokia Base Station Subsystems. Yunnan PTA will be installing a number of Nokia Base Stations and Nokia will also be supplying standard outdoor and mini base transceiver stations. This is the first time that this type of equipment has been delivered to a customer in China. This will give Yunnan PTA the capability to expand the GSM network capacity to well over 500,000.
