What you will see from Nokia at Asia Telecom 97

With Nokia Internet goes Wireless

(June 8, 1997) - The two buzzwords in the digital industry during the '90s have been GSM and the Internet. GSM is the most widely accepted cellular standard in the world and has succeeded due to its superior voice quality, international roaming and powerful data and messaging services. The World Wide Web (WWW) is networking the world, bringing the Internet within easy reach.

Nokia will be demonstrating a range of solutions that bring these two worlds together, including the Nokia Artus Messaging Platform and the Nokia Artus Access Manager.

Nokia will demonstrate the Smart Messaging concept, a new direct Internet access service technology specially designed for all GSM phones. Among the industry-leading technology and products profiled, are two of its latest innovations, the Nokia Cellular Card Phone, the world's smallest PC card with a built-in GSM phone, and the Nokia Cellular Data Suite. The Nokia Cellular Data Suite is an innovative software-based wireless data solution integrating Windows 95 with the Nokia phone to enable data and SMS usage via the cellular network. Nokia will also display its revolutionary Nokia 9000 Communicator, the world's all-in-one communications device, now available in both GSM 900 and GSM 1800 versions.

With Nokia Voice Goes Wireless

With global cellular penetration estimated to surpass expectations by the year 2000, the cellular phone will become the preferred phone for voice communications for most users. To meet this demand, operators increasingly need to provide more and better services to generate more revenue from their GSM network. Complete coverage, including indoor coverage to guarantee high quality service provision, is essential. High network capacity is equally important to meet the fast growth in the number of subscribers.

Come and find out more about Nokia's coverage and capacity solutions for GSM networks. Nokia will be showing the Nokia PrimeSite, a truly expandable microcellular site, together with the Nokia PrimeHopper radio solution. And for the heart of the mobile network, Nokia will be highlighting the Nokia MSC (Mobile Switch Centre) providing features beyond standard GSM.

With Nokia Cellular meets Fixed

To provide the best solutions for operators running both fixed and mobile networks, product and system platforms are essential for fast roll-out, cost effective and reliable networks as well as easy service expansion.

Nokia is presenting a range of state-of-the-art products and systems, showing the operator's fixed and mobile worlds at their best. Nokia's Network Management System (the Nokia NMS) provides network management for fixed and mobile networks. And the Nokia Intelligent Network (IN) solution also on display, enables operators of both fixed and mobile networks to improve their ability to create and introduce a new level of highly differentiated, cost-effective services, independent of the network infrastructures.

For operators who need to connect subscribers quickly and build their network flexibly, Nokia will be demonstrating the Nokia Wireless Local Loop system. Based on the most advanced technology, GSM 900 and GSM 1800, the demonstration includes the Wireless Payphone and the Nokia Premicell susbcriber terminal.

For operators providing services to corporate and SME customers, Nokia will be showing the Nokia City Network; a complete and integrated solution, consisting of service nodes, transmission and access networks. And in developing markets where operators must build coverage to delivery POTS services for residential customers, the Nokia Residential Network offers a scaleable way of dealing with network expansion.

You will also be able to see the Nokia SYNFONET on display, including two new members of the product family, the Nokia STM-16 and the Nokia SYNFONET Access Node (SAN). For city and residential applications, the Nokia DYNANET family, including Nokia's HDSL solution will also be demonstrated.
