Mobilix Chooses Nokia to Build its Danish DCS 1800 Network
May 22, 1997

The contract totals DKK 350 million and will secure Mobilix a technological lead in the future Danish DCS 1800 network.

Mobilix, a subsidiary of the France Telecom Group and Nokia Telecommunications have signed a contract for the supply of the infrastructure for a new DCS 1800 cellular network in Denmark. The value of the contract is approximately DKK 350 million. The network will be operational in December 1997.

"This agreement with Mobilix represents an important step for Nokia." stated Mr René Svendsen-Tune, Managing Director of Nokia, Denmark. "The Mobilix DCS 1800 network will be a front-runner in wireless data, as one of the first networks in the world to use the Nokia Artus family, launched at CeBIT 97, which enables internet services to be accessed by any user, anywhere they may be."

Nokia is the world's largest supplier of DCS 1800 systems and the world's second largest supplier of GSM networks, facts which contributed to the choice of Nokia as supplier. "On many occasions, Nokia has proven its competence in new digital technology and have the right products for fast network build and operation. The fast roll-out of a high-quality network is one of our main priorities." said Ms Monique Moullé-Zetterström, Managing Director of Mobilix. "We must be able to offer advanced services with a high quality, high capacity network as quickly as possible."

The agreement comprises the complete infrastructure for the new Mobilix DCS 1800 network and includes the Nokia Mobile Switching Centre (MSC), Base Station Controller (BSC) and the Nokia Base Transceiver Station (BTS). It also includes the Nokia DX 220 switch for international fixed network connections.

The Mobilix network will provide full data transmission support via the Nokia Artus Data Communication Server (DaCS) which can connect a mobile phone to the Internet within only a few seconds.

Mobilix is Denmark's new mobile telecommunications company. In March 1997 Mobilix won the licence to operate the new Danish DCS 1800 mobile phone network.

Mobilix is in the process of building a brand new Danish telecommunications company in only six months and will be working towards becoming the preferred telecommunications company among the Danes. Mobilix will establish itself in the Danish market together with partners and investors, and upto 40% of its stock will be offered to interested investors in Denmark.
